High Emotion

Have you ever been so caught up in a discussion that you find your voice getting louder and you start pointing more?

Have you ever been so sure of your view that you just want to shake the other person until they hear what you are saying?

Have you ever been the recipient of the behaviour in this situation? The person who is being shouted at, where the someone is just not willing to hear any other view?

It is easy when caught in the heat of the moment, to start getting worked up emotionally, but how much does it help or hinder us?

Disagreement can feel like a threat, and if we aren't careful, we can end up reacting to this threat, rather than seeing the other person and thinking of their view and thoughts.

A strong emotional response can often shut down the other person, stopping them from being able to take on the information or view you are trying to share, so what can we do instead?

What can bring the best from our different points of view and help us to work well together?

Questions.

Keep asking questions, keep your body language calm and emotions under control and you will be much more likely to hear the other point of view.

And when you are able to hear their view- the other person is much more able to hear and process your view.
